| I’m an avid movie watcher. The movies on this list I’ve seen several times. Some will make you laugh, some will make you cry, but they all have one thing in common – romance. Here’s my top 10 Romantic Movies list, but in no certain order:

“Love Jones”, “Love Jones” and More “Love Jones” (smile). And when I’m wanting some real old school flavor–”Claudine.” (LOL) It had its moments.
My top ten:
Love and Basketball
Love Jones
Claudine
Mahogany
Brown Sugar
How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days
When Harry Met Sally
You’ve Go Mail
13 Going on 30
The Lake House
Lori, I forgot about Claudine. Yes, that’s a favorite too.
Gwyneth, I have to agree, Mahogany is a classic in my book. I don’t think I ever saw 13 Going on 30, so I’ll check that one out.
Love Jones…FAVE
Brown Sugar
Lady Sings The Blues
Love and Basketball…
I am going to have to come back with six more!
blessings,
angelia
ok – call me all kinds of names, but Sound of Music is one of my all time faves. Not into Meg Ryan. What A Woman Wants with Mel Gibson. Liked Mahogany, Best Man, Love and Basketball. I’ll even throw in – Madea’s – good grief – can’t remember the name. The woman was thrown out of the house. The husband had a kid by the other woman. Then the husband got shot. My brain is shot.
Angelia, I look forward to seeing your others.
Michelle, you got me curious. I’m trying to remember if I’ve seen the movie you described.
Love and Basketball. It’s sooo bad, my oldest son lets me know whenever it’s being aired on a cable channel. ‘Cuz he knows I can’t get enough. Sometimes I miss most of the movie but as long as I can see that final scene where they play basketball for his heart…I’m good for days!
Notorious, directed by Alfred Hitchcock and easily the most romantic movie he ever made. Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman were at their respective physical peaks in this film. Something New with Sanaa Lathan and Simon Baker did a good job of showing a relationship develop. What Women Want with Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt is very stylish and fun. Plus a ton of older movies that no one on this board has likely heard of, like Come Live With Me or Holiday Affair or King Solomon’s Mines.
But my absolute favorite – at least for the moment – is The Holiday. Jude Law and Cameron Diaz are so sexy, and Jack Black is touching as the ordinary looking, witty guy who snags the gorgeous girl (Kate Winslet) who might not have otherwise even looked at him twice. I bought the DVD and watch it regularly.
Happy Valentine’s Day, everybody!
‘Cuz he knows I can’t get enough. Sometimes I miss most of the movie but as long as I can see that final scene where they play basketball for his heart…I’m good for days!
Oh my goodness, Patricia! That is my favorite part of the movie. I will watch the ending over and over and tear up every time.
Gwyneth
Patricia/Gwyneth – That’s one of my favorite scenes from Love & Basketball too. It’s like you can feel the love and it’s definately a “tissue” moment. Every time I hear that Maxwell song I think about the movie.
Bettye, I love Alfred Hitchcock movies, but I haven’t seen Notorious. I’ll see if Blockbuster has it. I liked Something New too. It was a good love story.
Love Jones (yes!)
Two Can Play that Game (so so)
Lady Sings the Blues (yes)
Love & Basketball (hell yeah)
You’ve Got Mail (never seen it)
Bridget Jones Diary (never seen it)
Sleepless in Seattle (so-so)
Brown Sugar (yes)
When Harry Met Sally (I used to be afraid to tell people I liked this movie)
The Best Man (yes)
I also enjoyed Disappearing Acts, Indecent Proposal, Something New, Ghost, The Last American Virgin, Grease…and many more.
@ gwyneth: I enjoyed Mahogany as well.
Don, I loved Grease. That’s another movie I can watch over and over. It’s the background of one of my myspace pages: http://www.myspace.com/filmreviewstogo
P.S. – Don, thanks for confessing to liking When Harry Met Sally. Feel free to confess anything. We won’t tell
LOL!
Okay, here are some of my favorites:
Notting Hill (“I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.” BEST. LINE. EVER.)
Princess Bride
Michelle’s unnamed movie: Diary of a Mad Black Woman (worth it just to hear Shemar’s proposal)
Why Did I Get Married (Hilarious, but it made me cry)
Daddy’s Little Girls (Yes, I love Tyler Perry)
Runaway Bride (“…but I guarantee, if I don’t ask you to be mine, I’ll regret it for the rest of my life.”)
I know there are more, but I just can’t think of anything else. Must have some chocolate.
DonnaD, I like all of the ones you mentioned, except for Notting HIll and that’s only because I don’t remember seeing it. Although Why Did I Get Married dealt with relationships, I didn’t see it as a romantic movie. It came out on DVD today so I’ll be getting a copy and will watch it again to see if my opinion changes.
Whatz up Guru, I am glad I pressed harder enough until I found top ten movies, because this post on Goss » Top 10 Romantic Movies was extremely helpful. Just last Saturday I was pondering on this quite a bit.
