| Besides books and film, music is another one of my passions. If you want to set the mood for a romantic evening, you can’t go wrong with putting one of these in your CD player.

Oh there are so many, I truly love Sade, I have all her stuff, and I love Anthony Hamilton, his scratchy voice and the way he reallllllllllly seems to love women in his songs, I have all of his stuff and have seen him in concert several times. Natalie Cole’s Inseperable is an all time favorite, that song was a hit over thirty years ago when I graduated high school, oh yeah and Luther’s, A House Is Not A Home, actually Luther’s Second Time around is a favorite, many probably won’t remember, that but one of my alltime favorites, is by Tavares, REMEMBER WHAT I TOLD YOU TO FORGET, my husband sang that for me at our wedding and he sings it on my cell phone…I love that, and I love this post.
smooches,
angelia
Angelia, Oh how could I forget Inseperable. That song makes me teary-eyed every time I hear it. I want to feel like that about a man….lol Oh how romantic that your husband song Remember What I Told You to Forget.
You got a great list Shelia. Luther, Natalie Cole and Billie Holiday are my favorites artists to listen to for slow jams.
Hey u, love the new diggs, how have u ben
Since you mentioned Minnie Ripperton, you have to call out Loving You, the original. And if you want to go back, we have to also mention Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes and Peabo Bryson!
Girl… you don’t want to get me started naming songs. I’d fill up the page. I’m a slow jam junkie. I LOVE love songs. My all-time favorite love song is “The Makings of You” song by Curtis Mayfield or Gladys Knight. I love both versions. If you hit me with some Rene and Angela “Your Smile” or “You Don’t Have to Cry, ” I’m good. The nostalgic child in me loves to listen to The Best of the following: Denise Williams, Stacy Lattisaw, DeBarge, The Isley Brothers, Shirley Murdock and Stephanie Mills, Switch
If I had to make me a mix tape of my favorites these would be on it too:
“He Is,” Heather Headley
“The Truth,” India Arie
“Kissing You,” Total
“Who Can I Run To,” either the Xscape version or the Jones Girls
“Baby Be Mine,” Miki Howard
“This Is for the Lover in You,” Shalimar
“Get it Together,” 702
“You Don’t Know My Name,” Alicia Keys
“Tonight is the Night,” Betty Wright
“Always on My Mine,” SWV
“It’s About Time,” SWV
“Backstroke,” Teedra Moses
“With You I’m Born Again,” Billy Preston and Syreeta
“Almost Doesn’t Count,” Brandy
“Time (The Clock of the Heart)” The Culture Club
“Lady,” D’Angelo
“Next Lifetime,” Erykah Badu
“The Other Side of the Game” Erykah Badu
“”Piece of My Love,” Guy
“Love,” Keyshia Cole
“Ex-Factor,” Lauryn Hill
“Love,” Musiq Soulchild
“Teach Me,” Musiq Soulchild
You’re doing it again, Shelia!
The Isley Brothers put out some gorgeous love songs. So did Luther.
The Main Ingredient with their original singer, McPherson (he died of leukemia and was replaced by Cuba Gooding), “You’ve Been My Inspiration,” and “Spinning Around.” Nothing against Cuba, but McPherson (was his first name Donald?) had a gorgeous voice.
The Delfonics, “Tell Me This is a Dream.”
Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions, “I’m So Proud.”
Phyllis Hyman, “Betcha By Golly Wow.”
The Moments, later Ray, Goodman & Brown, “With You.”
Lenny Welch, “Since I Fell For You.” (That’s Lenny Welch, NOT Lenny Williams, who always reminded me of a seal . . . ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow OW!)
D. J. Rogers, “Say You Love Me.” (Natalie Cole did a good cover of this.)
I could go on and on . . . .
Loving this topic!
