It was a proud moment for all Black women to watch Michelle Obama give her speech at the DNC last night.
I wrote this to honor women like my grandmother, my mama, aunts and other women like Michelle Obama who have given back to their communities and loved ones and not asked for a thing in return.

That makes them take a glance?
Or is it the stride of my walk
Because I’m a proud woman? What Is It?Is it the twinkle in my eyes
That keeps them looking on?
Or is it the groove of my back
Tall, Black, and Strong? What Is It?
I find myself wondering
Do They like me for me?
Or Is it the outer appearance
They only want to see?
Behind the voice and body
There’s a strong mind.
If they could only look inward
They’ll be surprised at what they’ll find.
Yes, When I speak, People stop to listen.
And to look into my eyes, you will see them glisten.
But If you take a chance and look deeper within;
You’ll see that I’m much more
than just a Black woman.

Her speech was amazing! She did us all proud, the entire country! Heck, I want to vote for her!
Gwyneth
Everything about her tonight was flawless and she made me proud to be a woman and even prouder to be a black woman.
She had me glued to the TV from her first word to her very last word. I agree ladies, she has me proud to be an American, proud to be a woman, proud to be a black woman.
My daughter was asleep when Michelle was speaking, but trust me, I will make sure that she watches this one.
Yes, Shelia I agree with you and Stevie….We are ALL Lovely!
Gwyneth/Lorraine/Kay–She was so inspiring that if she was running I would vote for her. She made us all proud. I want my nieces to see her speech as well.
I loved her speech I cried twice. Once when speaking about her father and the time she talked about Barak bringing their oldest daughter home from the hospital. Oh and when they paned to her mother. Michelle for President.
The Comeback Girl, I shed a few tears myself. Her speech was heartfelt and genuine. You could feel the love she had for her family.
As a woman she did her gender proud, but as a person she did all of humanity proud as she joined the ranks of countless other courageous men and women who dared to expose themselves at the feet of a judgmental world. Rosa may have refused to give up her seat that day, but last nite Michelle refused to give up who she was and what she believed in. She stood not just for women or people of color, but she stood for all those who dared to walk in their divine purpose and she gave others the freedom to do the same. And she looked marvelous doing it too! She’s got my vote!
She did an amazing job! I don’t care what anyone has to say! If are a woman you should be proud. If you are black you should be proud. If you are a black woman you should stand up and give her the props she deserves! I so want to meet her. This is something that our young girls and teenagers should see. This is definitely some that they and we all can look up too. Ok let me hush now. She is lovely!
There is no surprise as to why these two beautiful people were drawn to each other, the both share a passion for hope and change like no other. Her speech was truly inspiring and yes even I shed a tear.
And your poem was beautiful…not even Hasani can get me down today after reading it…lol.
Wonderful poem Shelia. And yes a wonderful moment for all indeed!
“she stood for all those who dared to walk in their divine purpose and she gave others the freedom to do the same.”
Valerie you summed it up nicely.
Jen, I’m making sure the young ladies in my family watch the video. Self-esteem is so important.
Teacia, I agree. I see why they were drawn together–if I didn’t believe in destiny before I do now. (Glad you liked the poem).
PrincessDominique, this is our moment. People have shed blood and tears for this to happen and it wasn’t in vain.
Sheila, I see you became extra inspired by the message Michelle Obama spoke. Good deal. And I hope no one makes good on all these Barack Obama threats. Did you read about that?
Shelia,
What a beautiful poem. I too was proud to watch Michelle speak. I’m glad I’m able to witness this in my lifetime and not reading about it in the history books.
I think that Michelle should do a Hillary and run for president in about 16 years! She did all women proud last night.
I didn’t get a chance to witness the speech but I heard about it……she’s a very classy and elegant lady…..and I would love it if she become the first lady!!!
that was beautiful!
