Virgo in the House

Birthdate Sign MySpace Images Things About Virgos:

Virgo is known for her love of work and service to others. Virgos have a strong need to be needed and a talent for healing the sick, giving good practical advice and assistance, and solving problems for others. Their advice is usually worth following because it tends to be based on a thoughtful analysis of the pros and cons of a potential course of action rather than a knee-jerk emotional reaction.(True. I had to learn how to balance though. Before I would give more of myself to others than myself but there has to be some balance or you will get worn out. I finally realized I’m not superwoman and its not meant for me to solve everybody’s problems.)

You make a wonderful impression with your skilful insights and broad-based knowledge. Simply put, you are a most interesting person to be with. When others get to know you a little more, you can be a fascinating person with all sorts of useful titbits of information. (So true. I can’t tell a joke even if you give me a punchline, but I do like to have fun. If you don’t know me, take the time to get to know me…smile)

On the most practical level you really like to do things properly, meticulously by working through the work or service you perform on a daily basis. It doesn’t matter how small or large the task, you take pride in how well you do it. You investigate things before diving in. Once you have all the information required you complete your task to the best of your ability.  (I think this is why I make a good project manager. I’m a stickler for details…some folks hate I ask so many questions and hold them accountable to deadlines.)

Others who aren’t quite as precise in the way they carry out their own work find it hard dealing with you. In your own mind there’s no point in doing anything half-heartedly. You’d rather not do it at all. You are very clear on this.  (I hate when folks don’t follow up the way I think they should.  I feel if someone expects something from me, then they should live up to their end and provide me with the information I need in a timely fashion.)

Time is also important to you. So you like to make sure you use it well. It would be unusual to find a disorganised Virgo. Keeping a diary and making lists are a favourite pastime of yours. Of course having the right pen and paper to keep your lists is just as important so a favourite hangout for some Virgos is the local stationery supply store. It sounds a little weird sure, but you do need to have the right pen to write with! (Two hand snaps.  Time is of the essence is what I always say. I hate being late. I hate someone else showing up late. I don’t like turning things in late. I just like things done in a timely fashion.)

You are cautious about all manner of things from how much the food bill costs to what type of person is just right for you in your social or romantic life. You have a hawk eye and can spot an error a mile away. If that food bill is out by 5 cents you’ll pick it up. (Cashiers beware because I’m watching the cash register like a hawk and I also double check my ticket before I leave the parking lot. I am also cautious about who I let into my “innercircle.”)

Your Virgoan antenna is sharp as a tack and you’ll pay special attention to the fine detail of any subject matter. You’re also very well read and interested in a variety of topics. You consider yourself an eternal student of sorts. (True. I like to learn about new things because you never know when the information will come in handy.)

Some people think you’re shy and unassuming but this is only because you cautiously like to observe and analyse people and situations before jumping to conclusions.  (If you know me, I’m not shy. But I am quiet around folks I don’t know. I’ve learned that you learn a lot just by listening.)

Virgos are prone to worrying, agonizing over things, and in extreme cases, hypochondria or germ phobia. (I don’t totally agree with this. I do worry about things sometimes but as far as being compulsive about it–no.  I am particular about hygeine. If I’m in line and the cashier sneezes into their hands and doesn’t wipe them off or use sanitizer to clean them, I will get my stuff and go to another line.)

Virgos don’t fall in love easily and they are very choosy about their mates and friends. They are drawn to people through intellectual curiosity rather than shallow physical attraction or passion. Virgos need intellectual stimulation, and will quickly grow bored in the company of those who make small talk rather than speaking of serious, important things. (True.  I don’t fall in love easily but when I am in love–I’m in love. I don’t like superficial folks.  I’m attracted more to a man’s mind and how he handles himself day to day than to his physical statue…but don’t get me wrong, I like something good to look at too…smile).

This is my birthday month and I’m starting the celebration early so join me in the month long celebration as I feature different authors on the blog throughout the month. Be sure to mark your calendar for September 16 for the all day online celebration.

Full Figure Monologues was written to inspire and lend a voice to full-figured women. It focuses on real life issues and captures our hopes, worries and triumphs. The intent is to open up dialogue and encourage people to sit back and look at life from the point of view of women who are realistically the population within society. Women will be able to truly see themselves or someone they know who has dealt with the struggle to love their curves, entertaining negative thoughts, their relationship with food, letting go of the past as well as the courage to pursue their dreams. Along with our curves, we are real women with everyday struggles. The women in the book put life into perspective and open up to show others that they are never alone. Life is not always going to be easy no matter what size you are, but the journey is absolutely worth it.

Catina Sinches has always had a love for writing. Short stories and poems served as her foundation. A new chapter in her life has begun as she pursues her dream of becoming an author. Coupled with women she knew and her own life experiences motivated her to write Full Figure Monologues. ” I wanted to create something on a personal level that was not centered around losing weight nor what was going on in the fashion industry.” She hopes to inspire and encourage women through writing.

Catina currently resides in Texas. She earned her degree from Texas Southern University and she is also a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.

Full Figure Monologues

Excerpt

Now It Begins
No one can truly understand what it is to be a full figured woman until you have worn the outfit and walked in our beautiful shoes. For many, the outfit has been our armor – a shield of unparallel strength that we have worn since we were cute chubby little girls. Teasing was a cruel reality that we had to continually endure . The teasing had many faces as it came from our own family members, friends, kids at school as well as strangers.  Our pretty faces were often covered in tears and were a source of comfort to reveal our pain  as we were too young to truly understand why people were being so mean to us. The arms of a loving adult or older sibling was also our refuge as they wiped our tears because we could not understand why they called us names.

Now take a step back and look at what you have endured and the blessing that you are still here standing tall.  Despite the bumps and bruises during our journey, we had the strength to carry on. We can’t change the past but we can take control of the present and begin enjoying life right now and the many years to come.  I know for myself that I can never be mistaken for anything else, other than a courageous woman. It is with a sincere heart that I hope you wake up everyday to the sun rays caressing your beautiful face and start living. When you take the first step and use your heart as your guide, you will have the courage and strength to stand against anything.

Interview with Catina Sinches

How did you come up with the title Full Figure Monologues?

I honestly think the title chose me. For a long time, we were not always afforded a platform to express the way we feel as women without focusing on our size. I felt as if no one truly heard what we had to say. I wanted a title that would encourage dialogue for full-figured women. In the book, I wanted readers to feel that if they heard just one story, they would be able to see themselves or someone they know in the book. We have the same issues just as anyone else. With that, I thought the title was appropriate.

Why are you passionate about writing for full-figured women?

I have been full-figured all my life and I had to face challenges because of my size. By me writing this book, I wanted to give women a sense that they are not alone.

What advice would you give aspiring writers?

Step out on faith and pursue your dream. No one can take that away from you. Take time to research your craft and don’t be afraid to ask questions. It’s okay if you make mistakes along the way, learn from them and keep moving.

Do you have time to read works by other authors when preparing your own?

I don’t have the time that I would like to read a lot when I am working on my own projects. But I do take time to read a little.

Did you always want to be a writer?

I have always had a love for writing. When I was younger, I would always write short stories or poems. At this time in my life, I decided to take it seriously and pursue it.

How do you prepare to write?

I have to be in the mood to write. I don’t force any ideas on paper if the feeling is not there. If I am not feeling my all, I don’t want that to reflect in my writing. But I make sure that I always have pen and paper around all the time so when the feeling hits, I will be prepared.

Are there other genres you are interested in writing?

I would like to continue non-fiction, but I am also interested in fiction as well.

Who has been your source of inspiration for becoming an author?

My parents have been my source for inspiration. Being that they were both educators, that encouraged me to pursue writing.

Where can readers contact you such as Facebook, website, etc.?

Happy Birthday Mama

Who is the person that I most admire?

My answer would be my mama. She’s endured a lot but never allowed her obstacles to overpower her. Through her, I can see faith in action.

She was one of the inspirations for my poem–What Is It?

Happy Birthday Mama! I dedicate this poem to you, once again :)

What Is It?

by Shelia M Goss

Is it the sound in my voice

That makes them take a glance?

Or is it the stride of my walk

Because I’m a proud woman?

What Is It?

Is it the twinkle in my eyes

That keeps them looking on?

Or is it the groove of my back

Tall, Black, and Strong?

What Is It?

I find myself wondering

Do They like me for me?

Or Is it the outer appearance

They only want to see?

Behind the voice and body

There’s a strong mind.

If they could only look inward

They’ll be surprised at what they’ll find.

Yes, When I speak, People stop to listen.

And to look into my eyes, you will see them glisten.

But If you take a chance and look deeper within;

You’ll see that I’m much more

than just a Black woman.

Thank You All

I wanted to thank everyone for the birthday wishes. Have a great weekend!!!

It’s My Birthday

I feel blessed to see another year. I’ve learned to appreciate the simple things of life that we sometimes take for granted. I wanted to thank everyone for being a part of my small little piece of the world. If I had Oprah’s money, I would treat you all to a cruise and we could party like it’s 1999 :) Turn your volume up (or down) and party along with me.

R.I.P. – Happy Birthday Dad

happybirthday.gif Today would have been my Dad’s 63rd birthday.

Love You Dad

L Goss (1947-1996)

I will never forget hearing two words, “Daddy’s gone” on the phone at 1:25 a.m. on November 4th 13 years ago. Sometimes it seems like yesterday and then other times it seems like an eternity but if I don’t know anything else, I do know that my dad loved his daughter and would brag to anyone who would listen about me. He was my number one fan long before I ever wrote a book.
