Charity Archives

Last night I volunteered at the Football Camp for Her held in Shreveport, LA. It’s a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

I got a chance to meet two of my favorite Superbowl Champion New Orleans Saints players: Darren Sharper & Lance Moore.

 Shelia Goss and Darren Sharper

Shelia Goss and Lance Moore

Of course both are good eye-candy but their personalities are golden. My friends already know Darren Sharper has been the inspiration for several of the male characters I write in my books so just imagine how I felt to be able to meet him in person.

I wanted to also publicly thank Crystal Brown Tatum for putting together a wonderful event that helped raise a lot of money for the American Cancer Society.

A Forever Love – A Better Off Wed Story

By Shelia M Goss

Trina Thompson has a promising career as one of the top CPA’s at her firm. Since breaking Timothy Underwood’s heart in high school, she’s gone from one relationship to another–each ending in disaster. Trina has vowed off men, until a chance meeting with Tim at a party turns her world upside down. Tim, a former NBA star, is known as “player of the decade” because of his refusal to commit to one woman. The chemistry between Trina and Tim is undeniably strong; however neither Trina nor Tim trust their emotions. Will their past be too much to conquer or will they be able to rekindle the love and happiness they lost years ago?

“A Forever Love is a wonderful story that locks you in with great dialogue and the realness of two people trying to get together. And no matter if you’ve only scratched the surface of true love or been blessed with love on the brink of forever, Shelia Goss has written a story that will have you thinking about every single possibility.” ~ V. Give at Home and Abroad

I know like me, you’ve probably seen the commercials asking for your donations for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. My heart would tug every time I saw the commercial. I didn’t have any idea that in December 2009 and January 2010 that someone close to me would have to utilize their services.

Because of the many prayers and St Jude in Memphis, TN, my 11 yr old cousin has a chance to live a long and ful-filling life.  When you can put a real face to a situation–it brings it home. Now I see why they have the commercials. The above picture was taken last summer of my little cousin (she’s on the left) or as we call each other–my little BFF-best friend forever. She will be in treatment there until February (God willing) and hopefully will be able to come back home.

Please give to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, even if it’s only a few dollars. I know for a fact that the money used is going for a good cause. To donate, go directly to their site by clicking here.

Speaking of giving, if you’ve watched the news, you can’t help but be haunted by the horrific scenes of the earthquake aftermath over in Haiti. Our sisters and brothers are in crisis and need our help.  Unfortunately there are predators out there so beware of donating to unknown companies.  The American Red Cross is a legitimate organization. You can specify which cause you’re donating for. To donate to the American Red Cross, click here.

Three things are certain on the current earth and they are life, death and change.  In the past I experienced all three when dealing with the murder of my beloved brother, death of my grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, student and cousins; through it all I had different experiences with each and everyone.  But, one constant emotion arouse and that was anger towards God and when I expressed that anger to my Christian family guilt developed.  My family often questioned my sanity to even think about being mad at God which caused me to question my emotions and my ability to be mad at the Most High.

My anger put me in a quandary of my faith.  Through that process my journey began, to find answers to, death, grieving, God, healing and can I be mad at God.  So, in 2007 to 2009 I went on a journey to research the bible.  Through my path to research and healing I created a book to assist all people grow better in grief and grieving.  My book entitled No More Good-Byes:What the Bible Say’s About Winning In Grief helped turn my anger into a closer relationship with my Father God through His Son Jesus.  I know you may ask how can someone be mad at God and build a closer relationship? Through my anger I realized, God love for me never changed.  That showed me God is not like man and He is big enough and strong enough to handle anything I may try to throw at Him, even anger. His love for me in spite of me caused me to love and understand my Father God more.

My healing drove me to action because according to the Word of God He comforts us in our day of trouble so we can comfort others.  By God comforting me I was driven to comfort others by created the book, the free website www.JoyWillCome.com and now my documentary to assist others in their grief, grieving and healing process.

Sister Soldiers Packing Party

Here’s information about a project, my local book club, Sistah Circle Book Group, participated in recently.  Cynthia Harrison and Rosie Roberson (see pic below) from our book club helped pack supplies at Galilee Baptist Church. Tannie Bradley organized the packing party for the Sister Soldiers Project. The Sister Soldiers Project was founded by Myraline Whitaker.

One hundred care packages are on their way to be received by 100 black female soldiers stationed at sea and in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait…

Starting in January, Bradley started collecting money. In conjunction with Sistah Circle Book Group, Women of Wisdom Book Club, Galilee Baptist’s Angels of Love, the National Association of University Women and Organic Root Stimulator Hair Care Manufacturer, Sistahs BookClubbing raised $2,248 for purchase of items and shipping of packages, which cost $10.35 each… Read full article.
